The mens team suffered a rather disappointing defeat at Whiteleaf last Saturday. The home side won nearly every match in the friendly tie, as Ley Hill suffered their biggest defeat since 2011. Only the final pairing of [Vets captain] Richard Pearl and the injured stand-in Barry Escott managed to tie their match, all the other pairings were won by the consistent Whiteleaf Team.
As always, the course was in fantastic condition, and there were no excuses for the Ley Hill side. Captain Nigel Ford, and outgoing captain Rick Rankin are usually Ley Hill’s most reliable pairing, but they were outplayed by some excellent golf from Whiteleaf captain Mark Carter. In the second match, another of Ley Hill’s strongest pairings, Ian Morris and Ian King were no match for Peter Dumbarton and Tony Dawe.
Paul Milward and Alan Puddephatt were almost assured of a halved match until a Whiteleaf player miraculously chipped in on the final green to condemn them to a 1-hole defeat!
I’m sure the result will be much closer when Whiteleaf visit Ley Hill in a few weeks time!
