mens section

The mens section is responsible for organising the mens competitions and the mens club matches.  There are a diverse range of ages, abilities and handicaps.  There are roll-ups throughout the week and matches against many of the nearby clubs.

If you want to improve your golf then join a club!

It's a widely known fact that the best way to improve your golf is to enter a competition and put a card in your hand! You might be a good society player but, as a club player, you'll learn to minimise your mistakes and tighten your game. The mens section have monthly medals and staplefords, as well as regular boarded competitions. In May we have the Champion of Champions event, where all of the qualifiers have earned their place by winning, or coming second, in one of the previous years competitions. The prize? Free membership for the following year!

General Conditions of Competition

General Conditions of Competition Entry for

Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club Events

1.         All Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club (C&LHGC) events shall be played in accordance with the R&A Rules of Golf and Local Rules as approved.

2.         All handicap allowances in competitions will be in line with the England Golf (EG) Mandatory Allowances Table

3.         All competitors must be:

a.     Of Amateur Status as defined by the R&A.

b.     In possession of a handicap index under the current World Handicapping Scheme (WHS) and not exceeding that determined by C&LHGC as a condition of entry for each specific event.

c.      Eligible for competitions by having a minimum of FIVE acceptable for handicap scores, in the previous 12 months / 365 days, on personal England Golf records, excluding any penalty scores that may have been applied by EG.

d.     Bound by the specific and individual competition entry requirements i.e. by membership category and handicap limits.

e.     Bound by and fulfil all requirements of the C&LHGC safeguarding policy.

4.         Entry

a.     All entries must be completed, accompanied by the correct fee and received by the specific event entry date.  Entries not accompanied by payment or late entries may not be accepted.

b.     No entry fee will be refunded unless notice of cancellation is received before the closing date for entries except for any entrant who may be balloted out and who does not subsequently compete.

c.      All entries shall be subject to the approval of the Handicap & Competitions (H&C) Committee which reserves the right to accept or refuse an entry, giving reason for its decision, which shall be final.

d.     Players MUST register prior to teeing, for each competition.  Please see the procedure on the relevant, specific Conditions of Competition.  Any player not registered before starting their round will be deemed NOT to have played in the competition.

5.         Scorecards must be submitted according to the specific conditions applying to that event.

6.         Players must play with another competitor or, if a marker is to be used, that marker must be a member of C&LHGC with a WHS handicap index.  In team events, the marker must not be a member of the team that he/she is marking for.

7.         Competitors must observe club dress rules.

8.         All ties will be decided on the last 18, 9, 6, 3, or 1 hole in that order, unless a tie still results in which case the last 6, 3, or 1 hole of the first 9 will count, except in those competitions where a play-off over holes to be decided will take place, followed, if necessary, by a ‘sudden death’ play-off.  Please see specific Conditions of Competition.

9.         All competitors are required to play with golf balls which are on the current List of Conforming Golf Balls issued by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. Penalty for Breach of Condition is Disqualification.

10.     All clubs and other equipment must conform to the R and A rules on Equipment, in particular Section 2 Conformance of Club.  Penalty for Breach of Condition is Disqualification.

11.     Any competitor who, during the course of an event, including practice days, misbehaves by, for example, swearing, throwing clubs, or vandalising the golf course or clubhouse, or acts in any manner which might bring the game into disrepute may be barred from entering or taking part in any BB&O event for such period as the Competition Committee may see fit.

12.     Competitors must return their scores electronically by no later than 24.00 hours on the day of the event.  Cards entered after this will be deemed as No Returns (NRs).

13.     Major disputes will be settled by the H & C Committee.

14.     Curtailed Play – Honours Board Competitions

a.     If play is curtailed mid-way through a competition because of dangerous weather conditions or course closure, the H&C Committee will, if it is an Honours Board competition, seek to rearrange and take a decision as to whether completed rounds should remain as part of the competition or whether they need to be taken afresh as part of the rearranged competition.

b.     If play is stopped during an Honours Board Match play competition due to weather conditions or course closure, players should finish the hole being played.  If play can be resumed the same day, then play should start from the next hole (as if no stoppage had happened).  If play cannot be resumed the same day, then an alternative day will be selected (agreeable to both parties) and play must start from the next hole as if no stoppage had happened. The match play score at the time of stoppage of play will be carried over to resumption of play.

15.     Curtailed Play – Two Day Competitions

a.     In the event that only one day of a two-day competition can be played because of dangerous weather, course closure or material changes to the course between day 1 and day 2, the competition will be deemed to be void.  Changes in weather alone between two days play will not be sufficient to consider a competition void, provided the course remained open throughout and no material changes to the course were made.

b.   If the void competition is a mid-week or monthly Stableford/Medal the H&C Committee will attempt to rearrange, if possible, for the same days of the week as the original competition.

c.    If the first or second day of a void two-day competition is completed, the scores will be entered into the system for handicap index adjustment purposes only and will be considered as ‘general rounds’ and not part of the competition.

16.     Curtailed Play – One Day Competitions

a.   In the event that a one-day competition cannot be played because of dangerous weather or course closure, the competition will be deemed to be void.  If the void competition is an Honours Board competition the H&C Committee will rearrange the competition for a later date, if possible.  Other non-Honours board one-day competitions may or may not be rearranged dependent on the Club competition diary.   Fees for void competitions will be considered to be nil and refunded if necessary.
