The month of May is always a busy time for keen golfers at Ley Hill! The competitions begin in earnest, and none are more keenly contested than the annual Champion of Champions Tournament. This year the tournament will be staged on 10th May and the course will be closed to everyone other than competitors. Eligible to take part is any full member who finished first or second in a club competition over the period from 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022. Simon Royal is the defending champion.
The competition will be singles, stroke play open to both ladies and gentlemen with simultaneous starting times on a shotgun basis. The prize for first place is ¾ of this years subscription fee, up to a maximum of £500, and for second place, ¼ of this years club subscription! No wonder the winner will be all smiles!!
Before that, the Men’s team play their first match in the prestigious Hillman Trophy. The competition has been suspended since 2019 due to Covid, but before that, the club enjoyed several years of success when our team twice reached the final of the plate competition. This year we have a stronger squad, and it would be nice to make an impact in the main competition.
Another casualty of Covid was the annual match-play knockouts. There are three match-play competitions, the Bulldog, a singles competition played off scratch, the Murdoch, a is singles handicap, and the Matthews, a foursomes handicap doubles knockout
The entry sheets will be displayed in the Men’s Locker Room and the deadline for entry for these knockout competitions is 8th May 2022. The first round draw will be made on 10th May.
