Monday Night Golf League – Week 2 ⛳️
Week 2 of the Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club league saw some surprising results, as three of the winning teams from Week 1 were defeated. The early leaders are The Golf Club and Berkhamsted GolfRange, both of whom have won their opening two games.
The Golf Club’s star performers were Margaret Flowers, with 18 points, and Club Captain Dave Hankin, with 17 points. The Berko Rangers side was once again boosted by a steady performance from Phil Bandy, whose 19 points tied with Callum Rutley for the highest score of the night. Phil has obviously benefitted from coaching by team captain Dave Marsden-Golf Pro!
The Yerrells side, strangely absent during Week 1, bounced back with an impressive 54–43 win over past champions 1879 Tennis Club. Bovingdon FC also enjoyed success against the strong Cricket Club side, thanks to their captain, Ian Birkett (18 pts).
There were two eagles during the evening—first from [junior] Finlay Kirkham on the 1st hole, and then from Ewen Couzins on the 7th. Nearest-the-pin was won by Pete Allam, and longest drive by James Dormer.
There will be a break in fixtures next week due to the bank holiday, but the league will resume on 2nd June.
For the first time, the Champion of Champions tournament was won by an octogenarian! Keith Fletcher defied the years to win one of the most prestigious competitions in the Ley Hill golfing calendar. The unusually dry conditions worked to Keith’s advantage, as he was able to compete with the longer hitters in the competition. Combine …
