Monday night league - week 8
Week 8 of the Ley Hill Monday Night League produced a full evening of competitive golf, with several close contests, strong individual performances and some impressive team results. Six matches were played, with the standings continuing to take shape as teams battled for valuable league points. Chipperfield strengthened their place at the top of the league with a business-like win over Golden Eagle. Dom Murphy was the star performer with 16 points.
1879 Tennis Club secured a convincing win over Harewood Downs, taking the match 52–41. The result was built on a series of solid performances from Alan Cripps (20 pts), Sheila Jalland (16pts)and Simon Reynolds (16pts). Sheila also claimed the ladies’ longest drive prize.
The closest encounter of the night saw Ley Hill School and Golf Club finish level at 51–51. Jonathan Pile led the way for Ley Hill School with the best score of 20 points, while both teams contributed strongly throughout a tightly fought contest. Ley Hill School stay second in the league, but there are four other sides, including the Golf Club within a point of the school!
Cricket Club scored a surprising 50–41 victory against West Herts. Jamie Matyus-Flynn delivered 17 points, and collected the men’s longest drive prize on the way. Ian Walter added to the Cricket Club’s success by claiming the nearest-the-pin prize. Bovingdon FC recorded the strongest team performance of the evening, beating Juniors 52–45. John Reid was the highest individual scorer – across all six matches – with an outstanding 21 points, while Dave Hutton’s 19 points was also notable due to his meagre 3 handicap!
Chorleywood finished the night with a resounding victory over lowly Berko Rangers. John Lambert and Richard Knight (18 points each) helped to consign Rangers to the bottom of the league.
Another successful week of league golf saw plenty of competitive matches, strong individual displays and continued excitement as the season progresses. There are three more weeks of league fixtures remaining, and then the finals night will see 1st v 2nd for the league title.
