Champion of Champions 2025

For the first time, the Champion of Champions tournament was won by an octogenarian! Keith Fletcher defied the years to win one of the most prestigious competitions in the Ley Hill golfing calendar.

The unusually dry conditions worked to Keith’s advantage, as he was able to compete with the longer hitters in the competition. Combine this with a competent short-game and a deft putting touch, it was easy to see how he was able to finish a full three shots clear of the nearest challenger!

However, it almost ended in disaster, as he found trouble near the 17th green. After hitting two provisional balls he was fortunate to find the first ball and make a remarkable double-bogey six. Even more remarkable was that he had only regained his sight that morning, after an eye injection the day before!

In second place was Ryan Pickard and one shot further adrift was new member Jake Bower. The nearest-the-pin was won by Les Kimber; his tee shot finished within two inches of the pin! Club captain David Hankin thanked all the staff and volunteers for making the competition run so smoothly, and praised the green-keepers for presenting the course in wonderful condition.

Well done Keith!
