Captains day was a huge success this year with 48 players competing for both team and individual honours, but largely playing to support the captains charity this year: The Pepper Foundation.
The course was in fantastic condition and, given the firmness of the ground, scoring was rather good. Coupled with the added luxury of 3 mulligan balloons, purchased by every player before the round, 38pts became the average score on the day. A prize donated by the vets captain Richard Pearl was awarded to Don Morphee, a golf towel embellished with “most average golfer” to recognise his achievement!
Stand out performance of the day was from Tony Cooke who amassed an amazing 53pts, beating Keith Fletcher’s 51pts and Darren-Marston-Smith’s 48pts.
The team competition was equally high scoring, aided by each team having 2 joker holes randomly selected which doubled their scoring on that hole. Given the permutations of scoring on the day, incredibly the result was decided by just 1 point!
Winners: Alan Puddephatt, Brian Puddephatt, Keith Fletcher, Ed Perrott 164pts
Runners up: Paul Watkins, Dave Hankin, John Duffy, Ed Sherri 163pts
The day concluded with a buffet, prize giving, raffle and auction. On the day we managed to raise nearly £1700.
As captain I would like to thank everyone for your support and generosity, not only those who played on the day but all who helped in organising, donated prizes for the raffle and gave cash donations on the day.
