Week 2 of the Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club league saw some exciting matches and there were some good scores, despite the greens being freshly aerated and top-dressed.
In match one it was a return to form by 2025 runner-ups 1879 Tennis club who cruised to a comfortable 52-29 win over Berko Driving Range. Tim Moore led the way with 20 stableford points, which proved to be the best score of the night. Bovingdon FC continued their good form with a 49-42 win over newcomers Chorleywood GC.
West Herts continued their good start with a 41-30 win over the Golden Eagle pub team. John Sterling (18 pts) was the star player and West Herts have now displaced the Juniors team at the top of the league. Ley Hill, the current champions, put in a strong performance against Harewood Downs. Young star Zack Smith recorded a remarkable eagle two on the tricky fifth hole, but it was not enough to save his team from a 44-51 defeat.
The men’s longest drive was Bovingdon’s Ian Birkett and the ladies longest drive was Sheila Jalland from the Tennis Club. Nearest the pin was Ley Hill’s captain Matt Yerrell.
There will be a break in fixtures next week due to the bank holiday, but the league will resume on May 11th.
