Monday night league - week 1

The Chesham and Ley Hill Evening Golf League began its seventh season on Monday night, and there were a few surprise results!  The league continues to grow, and this year we have twelve teams, representing local golf clubs, sports clubs and businesses.

The weather was chilly but calm, and there was plenty of run on the ball thanks to the recent dry conditions.  In match one, last years runners-up, 1879 Tennis Club, were defeated by Bovingdon FC.   The Bovingdon side produced consistently good performances from all their players to win by three points.  The other surprise result was in match six; current champions Ley Hill Golf Club were held to a 38-38 draw by the Cricket Club.

Newcomers Harewood Downs Artisans got straight down to business with a convincing 45-38 win over Golden Eagle.  The match was played in excellent spirit with talk of a re-match later in the year!  The Juniors team also started strongly with a 45-35 win over Ley Hill School.  Freddie Passingham top scored with 19 points and propelled his team to the top of the league.

Longest drives in the men’s and ladies categories were Rupert Pilgrim (Harewood) and Jayne McCarthy (Tennis Club) respectively.  Nearest the pin was Tony shaw from the West Herts team.
