Monday night league - week 9

With two more weeks remaining, Chipperfield have now secured their place in the final of the Chesham & Ley Hill Golf League.  New to the league in 2026, Chipperfield have been consistently strong throughout the season, and have only been beaten on one occasion.  This week’s ‘victims’ were the Ley Hill Golf Club side, who had fielded a strong team for the tie.  Chipperfield’s best score came from Nick Asbridge (20pts) and it was backed up by captain Martin Adams (17pts) playing off a very respectable 8 handicap.

So who will Chipperfield play in the July 13th Final? Their nearest rivals 1879 Tennis Club and Ley Hill School were locked in a 2nd v 3rd dual.  Despite a magnificent round from the School’s James Ramsey (22pts), it was the Tennis Club that emerged victorious (53-51).  For the Tennis Club, Simon Reynolds led the way wwith 20points and captain Sheila Jalland contributed another useful 17 points. Sheila won the ladies longest drive prize, and Jane Madden completed their successful night, by winning the nearest-the-pin prize!

In match two West Herts were too strong for Harewood Artisans.  Captain Gary Rees produced a season’s best 21 points to guide his team to a 52-47 victory. Match four was a close contest between Ley Hill CC and Bovingdon FC.  The cricketers narrowly edge the match 41-40 thanks to a tidy 19 points from Tony Shaw. Bovingdon’s Ian Birkett won the men’s longest drive prize.  Match five was between the bottom two sides Golden Eagle and Berko Rangers.  These two lowly sides couldn’t be separated and the match ended in a 44-44 tie! Dave Simons from the Driving Range team shot the best score with 18pts.

The night’s final match was a one-sided affair between the Juniors and Chorleywood.  The juniors, down to three, were thumped 53-39 by the Hertfordshire team.  Simon Wood scored an excellent 19 points. The league resumes next Monday with some mouth watering fixtures.  Ley Hill School face leaders Chipperfield, in what might be a prelude to the final, but the other sides in contention cannot afford to slip up against lower-placed opposition.
