The Chipperfield team were already assured of a place in the final, but some of the teams were hoping for a strong performance from the league leaders against second place 1879 Tennis Club.  The Tennis players knew that a win would guarantee them a place in next week’s final, but there were three other teams with a mathematical chance of reaching the final, and they were all hoping the Tennis Club would slip up!

In the event, it was a bit of an anti-climax, as Chipperfield capitulated to a 54-34 defeat, and in process, lost the league leaders position on points difference.  So next week’s final will be a re-run of the week 11 match and Chipperfield will be hoping for a better performance when it really matters!  Jane Madden was the leading Tennis Club player with an impressive 21 points, but Gary Martin’s 18 points was also valuable. For Chipperfield it was only Danny Truter (18pts) who made any real impression on the scoreboard.

In match two, Bovingdon had a slim chance of reaching the final, but their hopes were dashed by West Herts. Captain Gary Rees recorded a fine 21 points.  Ley Hill School needed to win, and in a tightly contested match, they eventually overcame Berko Rangers 53-52.  Rich Owens played well to score 21 points and secure their place in the 3^rd/4^th play-off. Dave Simons of the Driving Range team carried off the nearest-the-pin prize.

Harewood Downs v Chorleywood was the pick of the fixtures. Each team fielded several single figure handicappers and it was the Hertfordshire team that came out on top with a 47-39 victory. David Brown and Nigel Gray scored an excellent 16 points.  Richard Knight won the men’s longest drive prize.

The Golf Club side also needed to win, and they certainly made sure they did! Matt Yerrell (23 pts) and Rhama Payne (21 pts) headlined their 61-45 thrashing of the Juniors team. Rhama also won the women’s longest drive prize. They now contest the 3^rd/4^th playoff with Ley Hill School.  Freddie Passingham scored another credible 19 points for the Juniors, and has certainly been the league’s most consistent player.

In a low scoring final match, Cricket Club were 41-37 winners over fellow strugglers Golden Eagle. Luke Howarth (17 points) played well and helped the Cricketers finish mid-table.

Next Monday will be finals night, but a separate singles stableford event will run alongside the finals, and all players who have played in the 2026 league can join in.  If you are interested in fielding a team for the 2027 league, then now is the time to apply!  Teams from businesses, clubs or societies are invited to apply. You must be able to submit a squad of at least seven golfers; they don’t need an official handicap, but they must have experience of golf rules and etiquette.
