Monday night league - week 9

The league matches reached their conclusion last night, and there was a thrilling three-way tie for first place — ultimately decided by a points count-back! The Golf Club had already secured their place in the final due to a superior points difference, but there were still four teams with a chance to make the play-off. In the end, it was 1879 Tennis Club who came through to secure their place in the final — and a chance at winning the £500 first prize!

Tennis Club knew that their fate was in their own hands — they only needed to beat the Golf Club to progress to the final. All of the Tennis Club players produced strong performances. Claire Moore and Jayne McCarthy scored 20 points, and captain Sheila Jalland contributed a vital 16 points. The Golf Club will be looking to avenge their defeat in next week’s final confrontation!

The Yerrells Carpets team knew they had to win — and win big. They certainly gave it their best shot, defeating West Herts 61–47. Their total of 61 points was the highest team score in 2025, and in fact, the fourth-best score in the history of the league! Matt Yerrell was the star performer with 23 points.

Berko Rangers and Bovingdon FC both needed to win to stand any chance of reaching the final. Both achieved their aim, but they needed other results to go their way. Dave Simons, from the Rangers team, led from the front with a steady 18 points, while Oliver Beales — making just his second appearance for the Bovingdon side — scored a commendable 20 points. In the final match, The Golden Eagle Pub side prevailed against Ley Hill Cricket Club. Simon Black was the top scorer with 16 points.

Longest drive was won by Simon Royal (men) and Jayne McCarthy (women). The nearest-the-pin competition was won by Dave Simons.

The final will be held on Monday, 28th July, and will be between Ley Hill Golf Club and 1879 Tennis Club. All other league players will play in a separate Stableford competition.
