Monday night league - week 5
It was a scorching Bank Holiday Monday, and some players were on fire during week 5 of the Chesham & Ley Hill Monday Night League! With temperatures reaching into the thirties it was hot work for the golfers, but the dry conditions did make scoring much easier.
Hamish Watherstone parred seven consecutive holes to return a remarkable 25 points, and propel his Ley Hill School team to third place in the league table. Just one point short of Hamish’s score was Claire Moore of 1879 Tennis Club. Claire’s 24 stableford points ensured her team were comfortable winners over strugglers Golden Eagle.
The Juniors team maintained their push towards the league title, with a win over the Cricket Club. Once again they were spearheaded by 14yo Freddie Passingham. Freddie scored 21 points which included a birdie on the difficult 8th hole.
The closest match was between Harewood Artisans and Berkhamsted Driving Range. The Harewood team won by a single point, thanks to the subtle captaincy of Rupert Pilgrim. Rupert decided that young Zack Smith would play better if he wasn’t partnered with his dad!
The top-of-the-table clash between Chipperfield and West Herts was not so close. Chipperfield were comfortable winners after a standout performance from their captain Martin Adams (18pts), although West Herts John Stirling did take away the nearest-the-pin prize.
Longest drive prizes went to James Dormer of the Golden Eagle team and Jackie Hanling of the Ley Hill Golf Club team.
