Week 3 of the Monday Night Golf League was a close affair! Two matches were decided by just one point, and there were some quite surprising results!
In match one, strong favourites 1879 Tennis Club were soundly beaten 46-40 by newcomers Chorleywood Golf Club. Three of the Chorleywood team were playing off single figure handicaps, and they all produced steady performances. Simon Wood led the way with a credible 16 points off 8 handicap. Pam Munday Cripps did however enjoy the satisfaction of winning the ladies longest drive!
The Juniors continued their winning streak with a 44-40 win over strugglers Berko Driving Range. Fourteen year old Freddie Passingham led the way with 19 points off 10 handicap. Freddie’s night was further rewarded with prizes for the longest drive and nearest-the-pin! Bovingdon Football Club also continued their strong start with a 46-36 win over Golden Eagle Pub. Kevin Franklin was another low handicapper (4) who impressed with 16 points. Bovingdon are top of the league, but only by virtue of points difference across the three matches.
The real surprise was the defeat suffered by the Ley Hill team. West Herts managed to squeeze a 43-42 win and are now tied in second place with the Juniors. The final match of the night was another nailbiter as none of the eight players scored less than 12 points. Ley Hill School narrowly edged out Harewood Artisans by 47 to 46 points. Jonathan Pile and Rich Owens managed 16 points each.
